Collegiate Residency
In May of 2016, Dawn Flores worked with art teachers, Holly Smith and Dana DuMont, to bring The Forest Project to six hundred elementary school children, at Collegiate Lower School. Students were delighted to view video footage of the forest and a few lucky classes witnessed a woodturning demonstration from Barbara Dill, an expert on multi-axis turning. Everyone participated in designing fabric patterns either by using material from the forest, making prints from logs, drawing from photographs, or by writing poetry. Over three hundred patterns co-designed with the students are available on their own Spoonflower web site. Dawn Flores made a quilt from their designs which permanently hangs in the library of the school.
